OF THE EXTERIOR RESTORATION All work has
been done with Victorian period feel. Foundation
On the north side of the house, a 25-foot section of the stone foundation
was on the ground, with the Painted Lady sagging accordingly. This was
jacked back up and rebuilt by a master mason familiar with old-style
stonework. He continued around the basement and
house, rebuilding or repointing as needed, including sills and the entranceway
to the basement. The forest of jacks was able to be removed.
Special flashing measures were taken around the chimney and cupola ---especially BETWEEN the cupola and chimney, which is a tricky and vulnerable spot. Top of chimney was rebuilt.
Structural
Work The
south side of the house had been stripped down to the sheathing in the
mid-‘eighties, and then the project abandoned for a few years.
Most of the sheathing and a lot of the framing were rotted. In some
places this included the first foot or so of joists and floorboards.
Joists were sistered and floorboards replaced as needed. Exterior frame
rebuilt, new plywood sheathing applied and finished with tyvek and cedar
clapboard, and the house painted in 7 color Victorian scheme.
Other areas of damage were similarly repaired. |
